AADE
Digital Frequency Display/Counter Kit
(programmable-offset frequency counter)

|
The DDF1 can also be used as a bench-top frequency counter or built into other test equipment-- usable, and accurate, up to 32 MHz as is or up to 8GHz with an external prescaler. The DDF1 uses a PIC16C71
micro-controller which has a
built in A/D converter. Two channels of A/D conversion are available,
and
can be used to program a frequency offset, usually equal to the IF
frequency
of the receiver or transmitter. The range of offset (IF frequency) is 0
to 32 MHz in 500 Hz increments. The unit then measures the Local
Oscillator
frequency and adds or subtracts the IF frequency offset. The result is
a display of the actual receive or transmit frequency, with resolution
to 100 Hz. But the DDF has two
discrete inputs so
you can use it
as a direct reading frequency meter without the offset.
A high-visibility, contrast controlled, 16 character LCD display completes the unit, a an example of the displayed information is "14.2251 MHz USB." The unit is 3.125" wide x 1.4" high x 1" deep, open frame construction, intended to be built into something else or put in a small cabinet. Power requirements are 8 to 18 volts, 20ma. (Works great on a 9 volt battery). Or add $10 for the backlit version. AA-DDF1 only $49.95 |

Here's a review that Bill Myers posted on QRP-L:
Date sent: Tue, 11 Mar 1997 22:54:33 -0600I ordered the AADE Digital Frequency Display kit from Milestone Technologies last week. Marshall Emm (N1FN) announced it's availability on the reflector.
I ordered it via their web page on Tuesday night using a credit card. I received notification of the order and intent to ship on Thursday, with the option to cancel if I really had not ordered it. I received it in the mail today (Tuesday).
While listening to the fox tonight, I reviewed the "instructions". This isn't your Heathkit, 38S, or Rainbow tuner. There is a sheet of construction notes, and it states that that it "assumes a reasonable high level of kit building experience". This isn't so, in my opinion. While this kit shouldn't be someone's first kit, the schematic and parts layout pictures, with the construction notes, makes this a reasonable easy kit to assemble. I listened for the fox, never did hear him but heard around 50 stations calling him, and put the kit together in less than an hour. Powered it up and and no smoke leaked out. Hooked it up to my HW-8 and it worked. I've got it "sorta calibrated". I'll get it to a friend with a signal generator in the next few days to get it "dead on".
I plan to use this one as a bench top freq counter for now. At $50.00 each, I may get a couple more to install in specific rigs, like my NC38S and/or HW-8.
I'm happy, THANKS MARSHALL!
Normal disclaimer applies, I have no financial interest in anything, I ain't got no more money!!!
