Hi-Mound
has been in business since
just after World War II, and these well-made keys, paddles, and bugs
have
a well-deserved reputation for quality. "High Mound" is the
closest
English translation of the founder and President's name-- Takatsuka.

Introduced
late in 2003, Hi-Mound's
HK-8 Serpentine Key is probably the most expensive key in current
production
anywhere in the world. It could also be the most beautiful key in the
world,
with its hand-polished serpentine base and knob. Serpentine
is an
attractive green mineral that takes a nice polish and is suitable for
carving.
It has been used as a substitute for jade and is sometimes difficult to
distinguish
from jade, a testament
to the beauty of finer serpentine material.
The HK-8 is a visually striking key, and it also represents the epitome of the keymaker's art. The trunnion is mounted in high-precision, sealed and permanently lubricated ball bearings. The contacts are vanadium. The mechancial parts have a mirror-perfect chrome finish.
The solid serpentine base is 6" in diameter, and 1-1/8" thick. The serpentine knob is 1-1/8" in diameter. The chrome sub base is 4" in diameter by 1/2" thick. Total height from base to the top of the knob is 3-3/4". The lever is 6" long, of which 4" is forward of the trunnion. All of this adds up to a telegraph key that weighs 5 Lbs, 1-1/4 Oz.
In use the HK-8 is as good as it gets. The result of all that weight, and the precision mechanical components, is a key that is extremely stable. Operation is effortless, and the serpentine knob is an extremely comfortable fit to the hand. N1FN says "Words really can't describe this key, and I may have to stop telling people that the GHD 501M is the best key ever made. The HK-8 is right in there, and it's a lot prettier!"
HM-HK8 $715.00
I've had my own HK-708 since around 1980, when I bought it used, in Australia, and it is still as great to use as it was when I bought it-- in fact, it is the key that is currently connected to my rig. --N1FN

HM-HK706 (clear plastic shroud) $59.95

HM-HK707 (black plastic shroud) $59.95

HK-705 Straight
Key "Little
Brother" of the famous HK-708, the Model HK-705 is smaller, lighter,
and
less expensive. The design is virtually identical to the 708,
but
the 705 is only 5" inches long by 2-3/8" wide and weighs a mere 4.25
Oz.
Since it has the same "knob-over-base"
design
as the 708, you can place it on your desk and use it without screwing
it
down or holding it. Perfect for mobile and portable
operation, it's
large enough that you can use it comfortably, but small enough to fit
in
a pocket.

Classic Hi-Mound HK-702, Marble Base $159.95

HM-HK704 (silver colored base parts, clear plastic shroud) $89.95

HM-HK709 (black base parts, no shroud) $89.95
The Deluxe HK-808 key has a clear plastic cover and is mounted on a block of natural marble. Base dimensions are about 6" x 4" and the weight is two and a half pounds. Connections can be made to screw terminals on top, or solder lugs concealed in the plastic sub-base.
HM-HK808 Deluxe Key $169.95
From
the striking design and beautifully finished brass to the polished
hardwood
base, the heavy 802 is bound to become an heirloom. And it is a dream
to
operate. The secret is the massive key lever, which is
perfectly
balanced and completely adjustable (even the position of the knob on
the
lever!). The instant you try this key you will realize that
it is
something special-- to quote N4XY "What a beautiful key! And it feels
as
good as it looks! I have never felt a better action in a
straight
key!"
As you would expect with such an expensive key, there is considerable attention to detail. The brasswork on the 802 is superb, and there's room on the side of the base for a brass plaque with your own callsign (or someone else's for the ultimate gift or award).

The MK-706 arrived yesterday and I want to let you know that it is really an outstanding product. Indeed, it is a BEST BUY. I have been collecting paddles and keyers for many years and I rank the MK-706 at the top, ahead of some very well made and higher priced units.
73, Doc (KQ0A)Just to let you know I love that iambic MK-706 I bought last week.
Beats the pants off my Bencher and is much easier for me to send with !
I'm sold and would advise anyone to get one! Thanks Marshall !
Next..... that Swedish Pump <grin>.
