"Everything for the Morse Enthusiast!"
M. Nye Company
Nye has been making keys and paddles for a long time, and the tradition of quality and value is strong in every product that carries the Wm. M. Nye, Speed-X, and Nye Viking logos. But don't take our word for it-- click here to see what hams are saying!
As of 04/28/13, here are the Nye products that are in stock.
310-001, 320-001 and 322-001 telegraph keys
013-001 navy knob

Bill Nye had a serious illness during the last quarter of 2012. He is on the road to a full recovery, he says, but production of keys will be slow for a while. We will update this page as soon as we have any news, but I have to say that the -003 models (keys with switches) may be discontinued.
Tradition? Take a look
at Model 322. Now thumb
through the January 1937 issue of QST. First made by Les
by E.F. Johnson, and now by Wm M. Nye Company, the zinc bases of the
keys have been cast in the the same molds since the 1930's.
you purchase a Speed-X key you are not just buying a key, you are
a piece of telegraphic history.

SSK-001 Super Squeeze Key...
was a keyer/paddle based on the Nye SSK with a memory keyer built
With the exception of the MX Sprint variation, the Nye SSK-110 Super Squeeze Key has been discontinued. Available for over 30 years, the Nye SSK was a nearly perfect mobile paddle. N1FN says he's been using one for years and it's the only one he'll drive while driving. With its heavy cover, the SSK is rugged enough to tuck under the bungee cord holding the rig, and it can be set up so that you can keep sending even on a rough old mountain road. It almost never needs adjustment, and the 24K Gold plated contacts are virtually immune to dust and completely immune to corrosion. The large, smooth finger-pieces are easy to find in the dark, too! Base dimensions are 4"L x 3"W x 1.75"H with the levers extending a further 2.5" beyond the base. The SSK-001 weights 1 Lb 14 Oz.
Navy Knob (reported to fit the
Hi-Mound keys!) $15.50
Large round knob with skirt, as seen on the Master Key and 330C images above.
(see also the Hi-Mound Mushroom Knob with Skirt, which also fits the Speed-X keys)
The Nye Navy Knob is shown on the key in the picture below.
Aluminum base plate for Speed-X and other keys... $17.00
The key shown is an unreleased prototype on brass-plated base, from the N1FN collection.
The KB2 base plate is made by Nye specifically for the Speed-X
and 32x series keys, but it can be used with many other keys
have mounting holes 1.5" apart.
The holes are tapped for 6-32
machine screws. Other keys can be mounted on the base simply
the mounting holes. The base is finished in Nye's
black crinkle paint, has four feet at the corners for
stability, and is supplied with key-mounting screws. Note that
some old 32x (rectangular base) keys have 1.25" hole spacing-- options
are to mount with one screw, or drill and tap one or both holes for
that spacing. As supplied, the holes are correct for all 31x oval
base keys and 32x keys made after 1980.
Speed-X Key Springs.. $2.50
Conical coil springs, supplied by Nye as replacments for
but will fit many other keys.

I taught myself the code back
in 1945 with a
homebuilt (of course!) audio oscillator and a Speedex
straight key. Still have it, and it still works great,
although it can't spell as good as in 1945!

[Speed-X 312-001] They're just
beautiful! I couldn't
be more pleased.
Every specification is just as I expected and I'm especially pleased
with the big key contacts. These are the very nicest straight keys
I've seen in 66 years of pounding brass. ... Thanks for this very
satisfying first order. --C.W. (Bill) Bailey, W7DF
